Safeguarding & recruitment

Responsibility begins before a placement.

The people our clients support — including children and young people — deserve workers who have been recruited carefully and who know how to raise a concern. This page sets out the standards CareRise Group intends to apply.

Proposed standards — awaiting owner approval

These standards are proposed and awaiting approval by CareRise Group’s owners. They describe how we intend to work; they are not a statement that every process is already in operation. They will be updated once approved.

Safer recruitment

The standards we propose to apply

Which checks apply depends on the role, the setting and what the law allows. We will explain the requirements for each role to candidates and clients.

  1. Standard 1

    Identity and right-to-work checks

Confirming each candidate’s identity and their right to work in the UK, using original documents or approved digital methods, before any placement.

  2. Standard 2

    Employment history and references

Reviewing a full employment history, asking about any gaps, and seeking references — including from recent employers and, where relevant, previous work with children or vulnerable people.

  3. Standard 3

    Relevant qualifications and experience

Checking that qualifications and experience claimed are relevant to the role and verified where the role requires them.

  4. Standard 4

Appropriate DBS checks and barred-list information

Requesting the level of Disclosure and Barring Service check that is appropriate for the role, including barred-list information where the role is legally eligible and it is required. DBS checks are one part of safer recruitment; they cannot guarantee that someone is safe, so they are always considered alongside the other checks and ongoing supervision.

  5. Standard 5

    Role-specific training and competence

Confirming the training a role requires — such as safeguarding awareness — and only proposing workers for tasks they are trained and competent to carry out.

  6. Standard 6

    Client induction and supervision

Agreeing with each client how the worker will be inducted to the setting, who will supervise them day to day, and the policies they must follow.

  7. Standard 7

    Reporting and escalating concerns

Making sure workers know how to report a safeguarding concern immediately within the setting, and how concerns about a worker can be raised with CareRise Group and escalated to the appropriate authorities.

Working together

A shared responsibility

Safeguarding is shared between CareRise Group, the client organisation and the worker. Client settings remain responsible for their own safeguarding arrangements, and their own checks on agency staff, in line with the statutory guidance that applies to them.

We intend to share the information a client needs to confirm that the required checks have been completed, in line with data protection law.

If you are worried about a child or adult

If someone is in immediate danger, call 999.

If you have a safeguarding concern about a child or adult at risk, contact the local authority’s children’s or adult social care service for the area where they live. If the concern arises in a school, home or care setting, also tell that setting’s designated safeguarding lead or manager.

If your concern relates to a worker placed by CareRise Group, please also tell us so we can act on it.

Let’s find the next step together.
