For candidates

Work where your care and commitment matter.

Support work takes patience, empathy and a willingness to understand other people. If you are interested in supporting children, young people or people who need additional help, we would like to hear about your experience.

Getting ready

Training

Different settings require different training. We’ll explain what each role needs before you are put forward.

  • Usually needed

Safeguarding awareness for the age group you will support, and the setting’s own induction.

  • Often requested

First aid, moving and handling, food hygiene, or a qualification such as a care or teaching assistant certificate.

  • Setting-specific

Some homes and schools use a named behaviour support or physical intervention approach. Only workers trained in it can be placed there.

We’ll tell you which training and certificates count for each role. Arrangements for providing or funding training haven’t been decided yet.
